Belarusian athletes collect money for lawsuit against UEFA

The Belarusian Sports Solidarity Foundation (BSSF) has collected money to pay the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS).

“Despite the fact that the Foundation was given little time to raise such a large sum, through the efforts of caring Belarusians we made it!” stated the BSSF.

The CAS billed the BSSF €22,500 for the cases of 9 applicants against UEFA and the ABFF. The deadline for payment was January 7. Part of the sum was raised from private donations coming from Belarusians. As to the missing funds, the Fund was helped by Belarusian businessmen abroad, partner organizations, and representatives of the football community, caring about Belarusian football.

On January 6, the Sports Solidarity Fund transferred the fee to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The consideration of the applicants’ cases could take up to 3 months.

Meanwhile, the BSSF is seeking sanctions against the ABFF for violations of athletes’ rights. The International Federation of Professional Footballers’ Associations (FIFPRO) has sent recommendations to UEFA regarding discrimination by the ABFF. According to FIFPRO, there is a high probability that human rights violations by the ABFF are committed under the direction of Alyaksandr Lukashenka personally or with his consent.
